FAQs
Do I need to bring my own mat?
You are very welcome to bring your own mat if you want to but you don’t need to. Mossman Yoga Studio is fully equipped with mats, bolsters, blocks, straps and blankets.
I’ve never done yoga before. What should I wear?
Yoga is not a fashion competition – just be you!
Wear light, comfortable tops and bottoms. You are welcome to wear shorts, loose pants or leggings and a singlet or t-shirt. It is ideal for both women and men to wear clothes that allow them to move freely but if you plan on wearing loose pants or lower cut tops, you may want tighter-fitting underwear to help you feel more secure in certain yoga positions and poses.
Yoga is practised in bare feet.
We have blankets at the studio but please bring along a sarong if you like a light cover over you when lying down during relaxation at the end of the class.
I’m a tourist, what can I do before or after a yoga class at Mossman Yoga Studio.
Mossman Yoga Studio is located in the heart of Mossman, a quaint little town in far north Queensland right on the edge of the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park. We are 15 minutes’ drive north of Port Douglas (the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef), 30 minutes’ drive south of the Daintree Village, and 5 minutes’ drive from Mossman Gorge. You can also stop in to visit us on your way to Cape Tribulation.
Mossman has a wonderful community market which runs every Saturday from 7.00am – 1.00pm under the Raintrees in Foxton Avenue, Mossman.
There are too many beautiful natural attractions to list here. We suggest you check out the various websites dedicated to far north Queensland for more information.
Can I practise yoga when I’m injured?
Yoga affects physical and mental health. As a result, certain practices are typically not recommended for people with certain conditions. Your yoga teacher may make modifications to your practise; however, yoga teachers are not health practitioners. It is advisable to seek permission from your health practitioner prior to attending a yoga class. You will be required to complete and sign a Health Evaluation Form and Declaration prior to commencing your practise at Mossman Yoga Studio. These will be kept on our files and will remain confidential. It is important that you notify your teacher of any new conditions. If you attend a different class you will need to let the teacher of that class know of any conditions that may be affected by the practise.
Do I need to be flexible to go to a yoga class?
No, in fact, most people who start practising yoga have very little flexibility. Your flexibility will improve when you start practicing yoga on a regular basis. Go to the “About Yoga” page to learn about the benefits of yoga.
I am new to yoga, how do I know which is the best class or style for me?
As you learn more about yoga you will feel drawn to practicing a particular style. The great thing about Mossman Yoga Studio is our variety of yoga class types. Some people will attend only one type of yoga, others, use various styles for different purposes. For example, when you feel tired you may benefit from a Restorative Yoga class. When you feel you need a little more balance, you might benefit from a Hatha class. If you want an energetic practice you might choose a Vinyasa Yoga class.
Our Beginners Program includes an introduction to the different types of yoga taught at the studio. This will help you understand what you like and/or what you need. Information about the Beginners Program is here.
The class times don’t suit me. Are you going to have more classes?
Yes! As we continue to grow, we will add classes to the timetable. However, if you can gather 5 people (including yourself) we will negotiate a time that works for everybody and run a minimum of 5 classes for your group. A minimum commitment to 5 classes of 5 people is required. Contact Robyn on 0401 631 161 for more information.
I’m a yoga teacher, how can I get more information about renting the studio?
Contact Robyn on 0401 631 161 to arrange a meeting.
